Entrepreneur and previous Chicago mayoral candidate Willie Wilson announced April 11 that he will also be part of the 2023 race to lead the city.
According to Politico, Wilson, a business owner and McDonald's franchisee, has made headlines for giving away $1.2 million in gas cards in recent weeks. Wilson said he's bankrolling his campaign to the tune of $5 million.
Four years ago, Wilson won a little over 10 percent of the vote in the first round of the mayor's race. He went on to endorse Lightfoot in the runoffa move that was credited with helping her win over conservative Black voters. However, Wilson has said he regretted that endorsement.
Wilson also unsuccessfully ran for U.S. senator against Dick Durbin in 2020. He also ran for Chicago mayor in 2015 and for U.S. president in 2016. |
