Why this Passover drag show is different from all other drag shows?

Drag performer Merriam Levkowitz—billed as "Chicago's premier drag bubbe"—entertained a capacity crowd at Graystone Tavern, 3441 N. Sheffield Ave., for a Passover-themed brunch on April 2.

Levkowitz performed Jewish-themed covers of various disco classics, and led the audience through two of the requirements for every Pesach (Passover) celebration: reading the story of the liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt, and the recitation of the four Pesach questions. In this case though, rather than use the traditional questions, Levkowitz asked four audience members to tell about the four stupidest questions they had ever been asked.

Levkowitz also hosts "Merriam: Matzo Ball," a drag show at Graystone on Tuesday, April 4, at 8 p.m. Through April 13, the tavern features a number of Passover-themed menu items (among them matzah ball soup and brisket tacos) as well as Passover-themed cocktails, including the "Red Sea Breeze" (Tito's vodka, cranberry juice and orange juice), the "Moses Mule" (Tito's Vodka, huckleberry puree, ginger beer and lime juice) and, for the stoutly-hearted, "Ramses' Revenge" (a shot of Malort).
