Tina M. Tchen, Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement will keynote the Lambda Legal 'Bon Foster Civil Rights Celebration' on April 22.
Tchen will be joined by Kevin Cathcart, Lambda Legal Executive Director to discuss where we are, and how we are moving forward, in our fight for equal rights.
( Chicago, April 13, 2010 ) - Lambda Legal's 17th annual Bon Foster Civil Rights Celebration "And the Pursuit Of," will be at the Chicago History Museum on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 5:30 pm until 10:00 pm.
The event is named in the memory of Robert "Bon" Foster, the late attorney activist whose bequest made possible the founding of Lambda Legal's Chicago office in 1993. Tina Tchen, a colleague of Bon Foster, is Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. She will be joined by Kevin Cathcart, Lambda Legal Executive Director. Following the discussion will be a delicious buffet reception and open bar. Co-Chairing the event are Robbin Burr & Lisa Loudin, Melinda Dunker & Ellen Griffith, Jeff Grinspoon & Jon Foley, Doug Hoffman, Jonathan Lehman, Stephen Lewis and E. Patrick Johnson.

Tina M. Tchen was previously a partner in corporate litigation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. In that capacity, Tchen represented public agencies in state and federal class actions, including the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Aid, and the Chicago Housing Authority. Tchen is the recipient of many awards, including the Leadership Award from the Women's Bar Association of Illinois ( 1999 ) ; "Women of Achievement" award from the Anti-Defamation League ( 1996 ) ; and Chicago Lawyer "Person of the Year" ( 1994 ) .

A leading strategist and spokesperson in the LGBT movement for over 25 years, Kevin Cathcart has made Lambda Legal an unparalleled national force through its far-reaching litigation and public education since 1992. Cathcart graduated from Richard Stockton State College ( New Jersey ) in 1976 and the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1978. He received his J.D. from Northeastern School of Law in 1982.
