Whirlpool Corporation's PRIDE Network held a celebration at, fittingly, World of Whirlpool in Chicago June 23.
This event marked the first time the facility was opened to the community for a June Pride event. This exclusive 30,000-square-foot area features eight full kitchens, entertaining areas and two rooftop sundecks on the top of the Reid-Murdoch building along the Chicago River.
Along with hors d'oeuvres and drinks, attendees witnessed a demonstration by the Hearty Boys and got a chance to vote on which Whirlpool same-sex-headed family will be featured in an upcoming full-page advertisement in a national publication. In the 10th-floor lounge, people also saw the corporation's "It Gets Better" video.
Proceeds from the event (which also included an auction) benefited the Berrien County (Mich.) OutCenter. According to its website, the organization's mission is "to provide support and advocacy for respect, understanding and nondiscrimination to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and allied persons and their families."
