The city council of Wellington, New Zealand, has given a community grant of NZ$1,685 ( US$764 ) to the 16th annual Gay and Lesbian Fair, scheduled for March 10.

"It's just like any other festival taking place in town," said grants committee chairman Rob Goulden. "The first thing we look for is that it's a meaningful event that adds to the vitality of the community."

The fair features stalls, entertainment and a dance.
