( Chicago, IL ) — The 19th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will honor those who have been killed due to anti-transgender hatred and prejudice. The event began when vigils were held to mourn the loss of Rita Hester, who was murdered in November 1998 in Boston. The Revs. Bret Lortie and Eileen Wiviott will help lead a remembrance of the 24 known individuals killed in the United States this year.
The Unitarian Church of Evanston service for Transgender Day of Remembrance observance/event will be held in Evanston, Illinois at 7pm on Monday, November 20th at the Unitarian Church of Evanston.
The Unitarian Church of Evanston is a co-sponsor of this year's event. Unitarian Universalists are a non-creedal and non-doctrinal faith tradition with a long commitment to social justice and a positive, affirming ministry to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.
This event is co-sponsored by the Chicago Coalition of Welcoming Churches, which is a collaboration of Chicagoland churches and ministries that welcome and affirm people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
