'The Laramie Project' at NU Oct. 24-Nov. 2
The Laramie Project, a chronicle of the life of a Wyoming town following the 1998 kidnapping and murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard, will be staged at Northwestern University Oct. 24-Nov. 2.
The production, which Moises Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project wrote, will launch the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts' 34th mainstage season on the University's Evanston campus.
The Laramie Project production performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday; and 2 p.m. at the Ethel M. Barber Theater, 30 Arts Circle Dr., on the University's Evanston campus.
Tickets for the Wirtz Center's "The Laramie Project" are $25 for general public; $22 for seniors over 62 and Northwestern faculty and staff and educators; and $10 for full-time students with valid IDs ( at the door ) or $5 tickets exclusively for full-time Northwestern students on advance purchase. McComas, Kuper and Patrick Kennedy Oct. 21
On Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m, Evanston venue 27 Live, 1012-14 Church St., will host Paul McComas and his performance partner, local singer/songwriter Maya Kuper for UNPLUGGED, a benefit performance that alternates scenes and songs to raise funds and awareness for survivors of sexual assault and mental illness.
The protagonist of UNPLUGGED, Dayna Clay ( played and sung by Kuper ), is an out bisexual woman.
Former U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy ( D-Rhode Island ) will speak on behalf of his mental-health advocacy nonprofit, One Mind.
