Free CrossTown classes at Center
Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., has teamed with CrossTown Fitness to offer a complimentary high-intensity training experience.
CTF certified trainer Tres Rodgers is hosting the Free Community Total Body Class at Center on Halsted. Classes will be every Tuesday and Saturday, 7:30-8:20 a.m., through the end of November.
Classes will be capped at 40 people; participants can sign up on the CrossTown Fitness website ( www.crosstownfitness.com ) to secure a class spot. Participants of a Free Community Total Body Class can also enjoy 25 percent off at My Fit Foods, located across the street from Center on Halsted.
Mary Chapin Carpenter in St. Charles Oct. 15
This fall, five-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and 2012 Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Mary Chapin Carpenter continues her series of intimate, acoustic performances with "A Special Acoustic Evening with Mary Chapin Carpenter."
The tourwhich marks Carpenter's return to singing both hits and deep cuts from her 13-album catalog after performing with orchestras in 2014will take her to St. Charles' The Arcada Theater on Thursday, Oct. 15. She will also be in Milwaukee on Wed., Oct. 21, and Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday, Oct. 23.

Miley Cyrus, Flaming Lips show Nov. 19
The act Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz has revealed details behind its special limited-run club tour.
The bandfeaturing multi-platinum selling artist/entertainer Miley Cyrus and the rock band The Flaming Lipswill hit the road starting Nov. 19 in Chicago at the Riviera Theatre. The Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz Tour will visit five additional cities with dates lined up in New York City, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Philadelphia and Boston.
Cyrus released her new album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, for free on Aug. 30, following her appearance as host of the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.
Tickets go on sale Oct. 7 at 4 p.m. local time at www.livenation.com .
Steinem, Gay at WC&F Oct. 29
Women & Children First will present iconic feminist Gloria Steinem in conversation with Roxane Gay on Thursday, Oct. 29, at The People's Church, 941 W. Lawrence Ave.
Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., with the conversation at 7 p.m. and book signings 8-10 p.m.

'The Halloween Gathering' Oct. 24
The Halloween Gathering, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, aims to gather Chicago's creative communities for an all-day festival, culminating with a festive nighttime parade to which the City of Chicago and neighboring communities are invited.
The Halloween Gathering event will officially begin at 2 p.m. with The Halloween Gathering Festival. (The festival will also host a children's costume parade on The Ribbon in Maggie Daley Park.) The parade will commence at 6 p.m.; it will travel north on Columbus Avenue from Balbo Street to Monroe Street, and will be led by 13 of Chicago's most influential creative leaders, who will be honored as "Creative Spirit Fellows."
