City Winery to host philharmonic series

City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph St., is hosting the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra's fall Sunday brunch series.

The three-part monthly series kicks off Oct. 25 with classical songs of longing, continues Nov. 22 with some groovy jazz and culminates Dec. 20 with Christmas cuts.

The shows are as follows:

—Nov. 22: Feelin' Good: Grooving Music from Nina Simone, Zvonimir Tot, Gershwin & Beyond

—Dec. 20: St. Nick in Shades: Fresh Riffs on Holiday Tunes

'Jagged Little Pill' versions mark 20th year

The new four-disc Jagged Little Pill: Collector's Edition will mark the 20th anniversary of the Alanis Morissette CD's release.

The edition, which was released Oct. 30 for $49.98, includes remastered audio of the original album plus an entire disc of 10 unreleased demos from the era that Morissette hand-picked from her archives. The set includes an unreleased complete concert from the Jagged Little Pill tour as well as Jagged Little Pill Acoustic. A two-disc collection ( for $19.98 ) will be released the same day.

Among some of the songs in the set are "You Oughta Know," "Ironic," "Head over Feet" and "Hand in My Pocket."

Muscle-car show Nov. 21-22

The Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals show will take place Nov. 21- 22 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.

The event will feature more than 550 of the world's rarest and most desirable muscle cars and Corvettes. New this year, the show will feature the largest gathering ever of 1970 & 1971 Hemi 'Cuda and 1970 Challenger R/T 426 Hemi Convertibles ever assembled in one place ( 26 of 40 from across the country ).

Martin and Short at Rosemont Nov. 22

Legendary actors and comedians Steve Martin and Martin Short are teaming for a night of live comedy and music.

"An Evening You Will Forget For the Rest of Your Life" will include stand-up, musical numbers, film clips and conversations about their show business experiences.

Sinatra event at Palmer House Nov. 28

The Palmer House Hilton will host an evening in celebration of the centennial of Frank Sinatra's birth on Saturday, Nov. 28, in the Empire Room within the Palmer House Hilton, 17 E. Monroe St., at 6 p.m.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by a three-course gourmet dinner with choice of entree and wine service. Then, there will be a special "Tribute to Frank" featuring cabaret performers Joan Curto, Shelley MacArthur, Paul Marinaro, Beckie Menzie, Tom Michael and Johnny Rodgers.

The birthday party concludes with dancing to The City Lights Orchestra, conducted by Rich Daniels, until 11 p.m. Single tickets are $125, with VIP tickets at $150; visit celebrating100yearsofsinatra.brownpapertickets.com .

Tours to highlight Wright's works cancelled

The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust has cancelled a combined tour of two of its popular sites in partnership with the fall Chicago Architecture Biennial.

The afternoon bus tours, which were to include commentary by expert guides, were to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois, and the Frederick C. Robie House in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.
