Chicago Dancing Festival Aug. 25-29
The ninth annual Chicago Dancing Festival will take place Aug. 25-29 at various downtown Chicago venues.
With choreographer Lar Lubovitch and Chicago dancer Jay Franke co-producing, the event aims to bring together leading ballet, modern and contemporary dancers from Chicago and across the country to present the largest dance festival in the nation.
The event will mark the festival debuts of companies such as the Miami City Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, as well as the return of Martha Graham Dance Company, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Pam Tanowitz Dance, Joffrey Ballet and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, among others.
Also, for the first time, an entire evening will be devoted to "Modern Women," featuring works created by female choreographers from across the nation.

Gay Boston writer at Chicago Fringe
The Chicago Fringe Festival welcomes Boston-based ( and former Evanston resident ) writer/storyteller Judah Leblang for a look at life in middle age at Windy City Music's blackbox theater, 5340-42 W. Lawrence Ave., in Jefferson Park.
Leblang will be performing three times over Labor Day weekend: Friday Sept. 4, at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 6, at 10 p.m. Leblang's show, "One Man's Journey through the Middle Ages," is based on his recent memoir, Finding My Place.

Lookingglass to open next season with 'Treasure Island'
Lookingglass Theatre Company will open its 2015-2016 season with the world-premiere adaptation of Treasure Island, adapted and directed by Mary Zimmerman from the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson in a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre.
Treasure Island runs Oct. 10, 2015-Jan. 17, 2016, at Lookingglass Theatre Company, 821 N. Michigan Ave. The production will premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in spring 2016.

'Bette...' at Mary's Attic thru Aug. 21
Hell in a Handbag Productions will follow MIRACLE! with Bette, Live at the Continental Baths.
"Bette" is running through Aug. 21 at Mary's Attic, 5400 N. Clark St.
Caitlin Jackson will pay tribute to the Divine Miss M's legendary cabaret act at the equally legendary Continental Bathhouse in New York City. Featuring a live band, this re-creation of the beginning of Midler's career will feature the songs she sang for the boys in the bathhouse, including "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," "Superstar" and "Chapel of Love."

WildClaw announces big changes
Going into its eighth season, WildClaw Theatre has announced major changes.
Josh Zagoren is the new artistic director (taking over for Aly Renee Amidei) and Moira Begale is the new managing director (taking over for Brian Amidei). Joining the company as well will be four new artists: Krista D'Agostino, Sarah D. Espinoza, Norine McGrath and Christopher Walsh.
WildClaw is currently curating its eighth annual evening of radio horror plays, Deathscribe, set for Dec. 7 at Mayne Stage Chicago.
