Creating Change kickoff Sept. 18
The organizers of the 2016 Creating Change conference is holding a fall fundraiser kickoff on Friday, Sept. 18, 6-9 p.m., at Sidetrack, 3349 N. Halsted St.
The conference is expected to bring 4,000 queer activists and allies to Chicago in Jan. 20-24, 2016.
Admission to the kickoff is $15 ( early bird )-$20. Early-bird admission ends Sept. 17. Admission includes free refreshments, one free drink and one door-prize ticket.
Personal PAC panel Sept. 21
Personal PAC's Future Voices Council is inviting guests to "Get Personal" Monday, Sept. 21, at Holland and Knight, 131 S. Dearborn St., 5:30-8 p.m.
The event will feature a panel discussion with Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and Dr. Amy Whitaker, M.D. There will also be networking and a chance to win tickets to Personal PAC's Annual Awards Luncheon ( a value of $250 ). Actress Ellen Burstyn will speak at the Oct. 26 luncheon.
The cost is $20 ( includes appetizers and drinks ).
'Gender Performance' Sept. 22 at C33
The Office of LGBTQ Culture & Community at Columbia College Chicago will host "Gender Performance and Creative Process" at C33 Gallery, 33 E. Congress Pkwy., on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:30 p.m.
Photographer Niki Grangruth and multimedia artist James Kinser will discuss how gender, play, performance, documentation and collaboration are all incorporated into their creative process. The duo have been working together for eight years on the production of "Muse," a series of works that challenge traditional notions of gender identity and beauty ideals through the reinterpretation of iconic paintings from art history.
