In what is now believed to be the fourth stabbing in Lakeview in recent weeks, a 24-year-old man was stabbed near the Belmont El station early Saturday morning, July 16.
According to police, the victim said he was walking when two unknown male offenders approached him from behind and started a physical altercation. The victim suffered a stab wound to the back and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
The incident occurred at 938 W. Belmont at approximately 3:30 a.m., said Laura Kubiak from the police department's news affairs office.
The victim is listed in good condition. No arrests have been made. Police are investigating.
Tom Tunney, alderman of the 44th Ward," issued a statement saying, "Early this morning, a fight broke out near Belmont and Wilton that resulted in one man being attacked and sent to the hospital. Police immediately responded to the incident and two men have been arrested and are in custody for the attack. The victim was treated for minor injuries at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and has been released.
"I was out at the scene at 3:45 a.m. and have been in contact with 19th District Commander John Kenny. Thank you to our officers for their quick and professional action. Late-night patrols have been stepped up in our neighborhood and we will continue to work together to find additional resources for the midnight-to-6 a.m. shifts."
Two Chicago men have been charged in connection with the incident, according to police. Demetrious Moore, 26, of the 7500 block of N. Sealy, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery/great bodily harm and one felony count of possession of a controlled substance. Israel D. Johnson, 23, of the 7200 block of S. Rhodes, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of battery.
Moore is slated to appear in Central Bond Court at 2600 S. California on July 18.
