Chicago ( Monday, April 25, 2016 ) On Thursday, May 5, the Chicago chapter of the United Nations Association of the USA ( UNA-USA ), in partnership with John Marshall Law School, will host a day-long conference on human rights and the role of the United Nations. The conference will focus on a variety of topics in human rights, including clean water and sanitation, LGBTI equality, and the UN Universal Periodic Review process.
"We are so excited to host this conference with John Marshall Law School," said Kerith Iverson, President of the UNA-USA Chicago. "This event provides a prime forum for local residents to discuss the importance of human rights locally and around the globe, as well as the role of the United Nations in protecting and promoting those rights."
The conference, which will take place at John Marshall Law School, includes speakers from the UN Children's Fund ( UNICEF ), the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Windy City Times.
"We are thrilled to partner with UNA-USA Chicago, which plays a key role in promoting continued U.S. engagement with the UN," said Sarah Davila-Ruhaak, from John Marshall Law School. "We hope that this conference will serve as a platform for local activists to share thoughts and experiences on various issues in human rights."
The largest single network of advocates and supporters of the UN in the world, UNA-USA has more than 20,000 members, with 150 chapters in communities and college campuses nationwide. The Chicago chapter launched in 2004, and boasts more than 200 members.
