Former Illinois House Republican Chief of Staff Mike Tristano pleaded not guilty at his May 25 arraignment hearing on federal corruption charges. He was indicted for fraud and conspiracy in connection with a $1.3 million state grant and for ordering state employees on taxpayer time to perform republican party campaign work.
According to a 1995 GLAAD/Chicago newsletter, Tristano oversaw the distribution of defamatory anti-gay literature to Illinois households prior to the Nov. 8, 1994, elections while executive director of the Illinois House Republican Campaign Committee. |
