WASHINGTON D.C. — March 13, 2017 — Trekr Adventures has announced that it will enter an all-LGBT racing team in the 2017 British Virgin Islands Spring Regatta. The BVI Spring Regatta is one of the top regattas of the Caribbean. It will be comprised of 150 yachts in 18 varied classes from around the world, competing across three course areas.
The announcement is the beginning of a larger partnership between Trekr Adventures and The Moorings that will focus on increasing the participation and visibility of the LGBT community within the sport of sailing.
"When we started Trekr, we were shocked at how many friends wanted to get involved in sailing but didn't know how," said Josh Seefried, co-founder and CEO of Trekr Adventures. "Our goal is twofold: First, we want to raise the visibility of the LGBT community in the professional racing community. Second, we want to encourage more of LGBT individuals to get involved in sailing. The Mooringswith its extensive bases all over the worldhas been a solid partner in helping us realize that vision."
