These are some of the Transgender Day of Remembrance events taking place around Chicago:
"Night of the Fallen Stars: a celebration of Chicago's Transgender community" will be held Sunday, Nov. 20, at Center On Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St. The event celebrates and unites Chicago's transgender community and memorializes the lives that have been lost in gender-focused hate crimes. A reception will take place on the third floor at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception at 7 p.m.
The University of Illinois at Chicago's (UIC's) Trans Oral History Project will host a "Queer Story Share" Thursday, Nov. 17, 6-8 p.m., according to transoralhistory.com . There will be a closing reception Tuesday, Nov. 22, 4-7 p.m.
Soy Quien Soy: Trans Empowerment Collective will hold a social at UIC's Behavioral Science Building, 1007 W. Harrison St., on Friday, Nov. 18, at 4:30 p.m. There will also be a reception at UIC's Gender Umbrella Society Social at 302 SCE, 750 S. The Reconciling Committee of Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, 405 S. Euclid, Oak Park, will hold a workshop and worship service Sunday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m. for the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
