Chicago, IL, September 12, 2016 Chicago House is launching its third TransWorks Mentorship Program this fall, beginning October 19. The purpose of the program is to facilitate supportive and positive relationships between transgender and gender non-conforming ( GNC ) individuals in order to build community, increase life skills and create leadership opportunities.
TransWorks is seeking transgender and GNC individuals to participate in the six month program as mentors.
Mentor applicants must have been employed for at least 6 months by October 2016, and must commit to meeting with the group and with their mentee once a month for six months, a total of three hours per month.
"I'm so honored to be part of this transformational experience," said Kate Harrington-Rosen, TransWorks Program Manager at Chicago House. "Our mentorship groups encourage folks to have so many of their needs met in one place: emotional support, role models for navigating the challenges of being trans in the workforce, employment skills and a sense of community." The program begins on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 and will take place the third Wednesday of every month ( from 6:30pm to 8:30pm ) until March 15, 2017. If you are interested in learning more about the program, donating food or supplies, or becoming a mentor, contact Jes Scheinpflug at ( 773 ) 248-5200 ext 367 or at jscheinpflug@chicagohouse.org .
