All good things must come to an endincluding Jeopardy! champion Amy Schneider's win streak.
Schneider, a transgender engineering manager from Oakland, California, lost her 41st game to Chicago Ridge multimedia librarian Rhone Talsma in an episode that aired Jan. 26, Variety reported.
With 40 consecutive wins, Schneider holds the title for the second-longest run in the quiz show's history, collecting $1,382,800 in winnings in the process. (She only trails Ken Jennings' 74-game streak.)
After winning her 10th straight game in November 2021, Schneider became the first out trans person to make the Tournament of Champions. She later became the first woman and fourth contestant ever to surpass $1 million in earnings.
Schneider's haul is the fourth-largest pot ever in terms of regular-season earnings behind Matt Amodio ($1,518,601), James Holzhauer ($2,462,216) and Jennings ($2,520,700). She will return this fall in the Tournament of Champions, where she will compete against Amodio and other top contestants from the current season.
In a statement Windy City Times received, GLAAD Director of Transgender Representation Nick Adams said, "Amy Schneider has given Jeopardy!'s nine million-plus nightly viewers a historic 40-game run full of masterful gameplay, while her media interviews and Twitter recaps of each game have given fans a glimpse into her life as a smart, charming transgender woman with a girlfriend and a rescue cat named Meep.
"Her visibility has been a bright spot, allowing millions of people to root for her success and start conversations about being transgender at a time when proposed bills in states like Arizona, Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Amy's home state Ohio, are targeting transgender Americans for discrimination. Amy's achievement will be celebrated for years to come by Jeopardy! fans and LGBTQ people everywhere."
Recently, GLAAD announced Schneider would receive a Special Recognition Award at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which honor media for outstanding representation of LGBTQ people and issues.
