SAN JOSE, CALIF. (April 3, 2012) — Acclaimed writer/director Céline Sciamma (Water Lilies) brings a light and charming touch to the contemporary coming-of-age story Tomboy, debuting on DVD June 5th and digital April 27th from Wolfe Video. Relationships between children, children and parents, and the most complicated one between one's heart and body are explored in this story of a young girl who pretends to be a boy when she moves to a new town. The cast includes dazzling newcomer Zoé Héran, Malonn Lévana (Fly Me to the Moon), Sophie Cattani (Polisse, Blame it on Mum) and Mathieu Demy (Americano). Bonus materials include a behind-the-scenes documentary featuring interviews with the director and cast.
Since its prestigious debut as the opening night film of the Berlin Film Festival's Panorama section (where it went on to win the juried Teddy Award), Tomboy has won numerous awards including "Best Feature Film" at the 2011 Torino International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, the "Audience Award" for Best Feature at the 2011 San Francisco International Lesbian & Gay Film Festival, and the "Jury Prize" for Best Feature at the 2011 Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. In addition, the film is nominated for "Outstanding Film - Limited Release" at the 2012 GLAAD Media Awards.
Tomboy's hugely successful US theatrical release has earned the film rave reviews and fans across the country.
Synopsis:
Tomboy tells the story of 10-year-old Laure (played by the amazing Zoe Heran) who moves to the suburbs and decides to pass as a boy amongst the pack of neighborhood kids. As "Mikael" she catches the attention of leader of the pack Lisa, who becomes smitten with her. Finding resourceful ways to hide her true self, Laure takes advantage of her new identity, as if the end of the summer would never reveal her unsettling secret.
Tomboy is in French (with English subtitles) and has a running time of 84 minutes. The film is not rated. The DVD will feature a 20 minute behind the scenes featurette with Director Céline Sciamma offering fascinating insights into working with young actors on an indie film.
