Critics' Picks
The Life and Short Death of Eric Argyle, Steep Theatre, through March 14. Romantic playgoers can't get enough of Ross Dungan's tale of a recluse reaching out from beyond the grave to comfort the woman he loved in silence. MSB
Red, Redtwist Theatre, through March 8. Art may be what endures, but it also can make martyrs of artists too eager to worship their own creations. MSB
The Rose Tattoo, The Artistic Home, through Feb. 28. About as close to a comedy as Tennessee Williams ever wrote, but it's about sex in 1950 so the characters just HAVE to torture themselves before the final hopeful, happy ending. Eileen Nicolai was born to play earthy Serafina. JA
White Guy on the Bus, Northlight Theatre, Skokie, through March 1. Bruce Graham's gripping world premiere drama abruptly shifts to become a tense revenge thriller that takes a very pessimistic look at race relations in America today. SCM
