African American Arts Alliance's MLK show Jan. 19
The African American Arts Alliance will hold "Justice Is Ours," the 4th Annual Martin Luther King Jr,, Day Celebration (A Dedication of Dance, Song, Poetry and Music), on Monday, Jan. 19.
The event will feature performances from Sketch N' Tyme, The Robbert Reddrick Trio, Alexis Rogers, Yahdina Udeen, Dawn Bless, Red Clay Dance and RIZE Youth Dance Company.
The performance begins at 7 p.m.; a pre-show reception will take place at 6 p.m. at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center, 4450 N. Clark St. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at www.aaaachicago.org or at the door on the evening of the event.
The Driehaus Foundation and the Illinois Arts Council are sponsoring the event, in part.
Sweat Girls part of Fillet of Solo Festival
Running as part of Lifeline Theatre's 18th Annual Fillet of Solo Festival, The Sweat Girls Are: Tribal Elders will take place on consecutive Saturdays ( Jan. 10, 17 and 24 ) at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave.
It will run at 4 p.m. on Jan. 17, and 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 24.
Caroline Andres, Cindy Hanson, Dorothy Milne, Clare Nolan, Martie Sanders and Pamela Webster are the co-writers and performers.
The Fillet of Solo Festival will run through Jan. 25, and will feature 16 storytelling collectives and numerous solo performers. Among the other slated performers are the LGBTQ sketch-comedy organization GayCo; the LGBTQ storytellers OUTspoken; The God, SEX & Death Variety Hour; and Chicago Slam Works.

New comedy theater opens
Chicago…Under The Gun Theater announced the official grand opening of its new 90-seat black box theater space located in the Links Hall Building, 956 W. Newport Ave.
Kevin Mullaney ( original artistic director of UCB Theater in New York City, and current artistic director of the Chicago Improv Festival ) and Angie McMahon ( founding director of Chemically Imbalanced Comedy and current faculty member of The Second City ) have teamed for this new venture.
