The Royal George Theatre and Vicki Quade present Dysfunctional Dixie Christmas, a one-hour fully improvised holiday spoof of Tennessee Williams, at the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted, Chicago, running through Dec. 31.
Dysfunctional Dixie Christmas, is the holiday version of the hit comedy, Cast on a Hot Tin Roof, the play Tennessee Williams forgot to write, or wished he never did.
The cast is comprised of skilled members of Chicago's improv scene. This group will seduce the audience into fits of laughter while exploring Williams' themes of human frailty, the fatalistic undercurrents of Southern society, and the redeeming power of personal connection. Williams' stock characters and situations combined with audience suggestions will assist the cast in affectionately skewering the playwright's own literary pretensions and affectations.
The cast will include regulars Liz Cloud, Lynda Shadrake, Annie Rubino, Jenni Lamb, Randy Craig, Vince Kracht, Mary Olivieri, Brendan Kelly, Larry Reedy, and Matt Tiegler.
Mary Fahey Hughes, who has worked extensively in the Chicago improv scene, will direct and also appear occasionally in the cast.
Dysfunctional Dixie Christmas and Cast on a Hot Tin Roof were created by Mark Gagné and produced by The Free Associates Theatre Company in Chicago. Having admired the work of the Free Associates for years, Vicki Quade approached the group for the rights to remount these Tennessee Williams parodies. After negotiating a licensing arrangement, she brought the projects to the Royal George in Chicago.
