Showtime has picked up The Chi for a fifth season.
Created and executive produced by out Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Twenties; Boomerang) and executive-produced by Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Common (Selma), The Chi is a coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents on the South Side of Chicago who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption.
The cast includes Alex Hibbert, Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Armando Riesco, Sonja Sohn, Steven Williams, transgender actress Jasmine Davis and Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kandi Burruss, among others.
The fourth season, which just aired its finale last night, is averaging 4.2 million weekly viewers and is on pace to become the most-streamed Showtime series ever. The fifth season will return to the network in 2022.
Other executive producers of the show's fourth season include Aaron Kaplan (A Million Little Things; The Neighborhood); Rick Famuyiwa (Dope); Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone of ID8 Multimedia; Hillman Grad Productions President Rishi Rajani; and showrunner Justin Hillian. Produced entirely in its namesake city, The Chi is produced by 20th Television.
