Celebrate the 21st annual Dining Out For Life event, Thursday, April 24, all around Chicago. A portion of the proceeds will go to EdgeAlliance's HIV/AIDS housing programs. Get your grub on for a good cause at locations such as Crew Bar + Grill, Hamburger Mary's, Halsted's, Taverna 750, and Wood, where I shot this week's sumptuous cover featuring Erik and Ty. For a full list of participating locations, see page 21 or go to www.DiningOutForLife.com/chicago.
Fabitat at Door No. 3 in Wicker Park ( downstairs bar of The Double Door ) is still one of the hottest off-the-strip parties in town. Last Wednesday, I enjoyed full-on rock and roll with Mr. Ma'am, dirty drag with Lucy Stoole ( who looks an awful lot like one of this week's cover models ), dancin' with DJ Adam El, and I finally met Detox Icunt. Bokay? Stop down to Fabitat next Wednesday to fete Mr. Adam El on the advent of his birth and junk.
The girls and boys and everyones of Trikone Chicago's Jai HO! Queen party at Big Chicks reawakened my love for the art of drag. Who knew all it took was bare feet, genderbending, a broom, and a latex glove? I believe all are visible in the photo spread on page 17. Except for the broom. Wonder where that got to?
A tip of the hat to my very good friend ( and part-time Uncle Jesse impersonator ) James Gavin on his new gigs. Not only is he hosting Wednesday night karaoke at The Closet, but his new cabaret show Out Of My Head plays the second Friday of each month at 3160. A real crooner, this one!
This year's Leather Eye for the Preppy Guy makeover contest at Touche was exhausting for all the right reasons. As a judge, I feel that our choice of John ( out of an unprecedented field of 13 contestants ) was absolutely right. See the spread on 25 and I dare you to disagree.
Speaking of Touche, the next installment of Windy City Gay Idol kicks off nice and late this Thursday at Touche, followed by Wed., April 23, at Mary's Attic, and Sun., April 27, at 3160.
