One ( of many ) bright spot ( s ) in this crazy week has been the knowledge that I would have no lack of column fodder.
Let's start with my trip ( and I mean "trip" in every conceivable sense of the word ) down to visit John L's in Calumet City. It had been a few years since I had visited and, lulled into my polished cityboy stupor, I had forgotten how things can go down on the outskirts. Well, I'm here to report that the outskirts are well worth the drive if you're not afraid to venture outside this gay Chicago bubble we've created for ourselves. Not to disparage the bubble, mind you. I do love the bubble as well.
John L's can get a little rough ( like Clark's on Clark during a full moon ) , so if you've got the balls, Cal City is waiting to see them.
Another one of my heaping, helpings of human gratitude to Tim Smith, whose SD card full of creamy, dreamy photos of The Glenwood's benefit for Chicago Dragons' Otha saved my day. You are so getting a karmic card in the spiritual mail, Tim!
I cannot speak highly enough of our new columnist, AK Miller and his "Being Continued" series. I've known AK for a long time, but never knew of the amazing talent he possesses for spinning a poignant tale. We drunk-talked inspiration, motivation, all that good shit. I love being the guy at the bar/party who insists upon having a real conversation. Yes, I am "that guy."
Great show, Scott Free! Bear All 2.0 at Touche did not disappoint. It was both bear and all.
Wonder how long it'll take to mop up all the blood at Jackhammer. Joey, you filthy fucking pig.
