In 2002, a year in which many more CDs were released than necessary, I was faced with the daunting task of narrowing down the multitude of assembling a list of discs that represented the best releases of the year. I have used various criteria over the years--was I knocked out of my seat on the first listen? Was the album as popular with the public as it was with me? Did it represent artistic growth? A new direction? A road less traveled?
For me, this was the year of repeat usage. In the rare moments when I wasn't listening to something new and just released for review, to what albums did I return time and time again? The list below is a representation of that. From start to finish, these albums gave me pleasure, challenged me, entertained me, and even made me cry when the timing was right.
