In the early morning hours of July 3, a teenager was fatally stabbed in Lakeview.
Officer Kubiak of the police's news affairs division told Windy City Times that the 18-year-old victim and the offender got into a quarrel near 938 W. Belmont, which is located adjacent to that street's Red, Brown and Purple Line 'L' stops. A knife was pulled and the victim was stabbed in the upper left side of his chest at 1:44 a.m., police said.
Afterwards, he collapsed down the block from the stabbing.
The victim was later pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Kubiak said. Chicago police have identified the victim, but had not notified the family as of press time.
Police confirmed that the attacker fled east on Belmont after the incident. The Area 3 violent crimes division is investigating.
