Diana Taurasi scored a WNBA record 47 points to lead the Mercury to a 111-110 triple-overtime win on Aug. 10 over the Houston Comets in the highest-scoring game in league history, according to CBS Sportsline.
She broke Katie Smith's record of 46 points set in 2001. Taurasi was not around for the end as she fouled out with 2:45 left in the second overtime, 35 seconds after she broke the mark.
Sheryl Swoopes led the Comets with 30 points and played a career-high 55 minutes. She was the only player from both teams who played all 55 minutes.
In other WNBA-related news, Candice Dupree scored 24 points to lead the expansion Chicago Sky to an 80-73 win over the Indiana Fever on Aug. 13. The Sky ( 5-29 ) snapped a seven-game losing streak and won for only the second time away from Chicago, the Associated Press reported.
