Are you an oenophile? Many were spotted at Union Station recently when a wine and tapas tasting event took over the space. It was the largest showcase of Spanish wines in the U.S. and it left me feeling intimidated.
So you don't feel intimidated, here is some vocabulary that might be thrown at you:
Acidity: refers to the acids that the wine contains.
Tannins: product of the skin from the grape.
Nose: bouquet of the wine.
Finish: aftertaste from the wine.
When you are out to dinner and want to try wines, don't be embarrassed to ask your server to pair wines with different food for you. Also, ask your server if they offer flights. This is when there is a specific price that offers four different types of wines with a theme. For example, themes may involve soft whites, beefy reds or country of origin.
You may want to try some wines without all the pressure of a server or date hovering over you. Most wine vendors offer free tastings for you.
Are you beginning to feel like an oenophile, or wine expert? Well, this just gives you a taste of what is in store for you in the wide world of wines.
