The incredibly handsome man, around 40 years old, sits in an elegant hotel room with two beautiful women. He thinks he's about to score with both of them: one of them is a loan officer at his bank. As he starts to undress, the two women, platonic friends and co-workers, begin kissing each other. As his excitement grows, the loan officer looks at him.
"Thanks, Ray, but we're good." He sheepishly puts his pants back on, while the two women wait for him to leave. On Monday morning, he and his business partner get their loan.
This highly sexual, screamingly funny sequence can be seen in the third season opener opener of HBO's erotic comedy-drama, Hung. The eye-opening serieswhose opening credits feature lead character Ray ( Thomas Jane ) stripping nude as he walks through the streets of downtown Detroitfollows the misadventures of a divorced, cash strapped basketball coach with a large, highly marketable penis who turns to prostitution in these troubled economic times. Hung, which doesn't shy away from graphic nudity, premiered June 28, 2009, and has amassed quite a following. Jane co-stars with Jane Adams, who plays Tanya, his best friend and pimp. Ellen's ex-girlfriend Anne Heche appears as Jessica, Ray's long suffering ex-wife.
HBO began airing the series' eagerly anticipated third season this month. The 10-episode season will offer additional episodes each week. Episodes will be rerun throughout the month on HBO ( check your cable/satellite guide for rerun days/times ) , and will also be available on demand. The new season promises to be quite a groundbreaker. When the sixth episode airs, viewers will be introduced to Kyla ( Jamie Clayton ) a client and possible love interest for Ray. Like the character she plays, Clayton is transgender.
Clayton has worn a number of hats as her career has progressed. She co-hosted the VH1 reality series Transform Me, has modeled, and works as a make-up artist. Hung marks her first major acting role, and she told Windy City Times ( via email ) that it was a most positive experience for her.
"I was really nervous," Clayton stated bout her first day on the set. However, she got a lot of encouragement, and was told that she was growing as an actress very quickly. "That meant so much to me," she added.
She also enjoyed working with Thomas Jane: "He was an absolute dream. He was such a gentleman and was so patient with me. On our last day of shooting I thanked him for being so great and he told me I was a natural. I'll never forget that. I really couldn't have asked for a better experience. Every member of the crew was so supportive."
Clayton credits the New York Times for getting her the job: "The creators/writers of Hung found me from a Times article I was featured in about the acting school I attend. They contacted my agent and I submitted a taped audition from New York. The next thing I knew I was flying out to LA to film my scenes."
Season three of Hung promises to deliver to viewers its usual smorgasbord of sin, debauchery, belly laughs and thought-provoking human drama. Be on the lookout for it Sunday nights on HBO.
