Conde Nast Traveler's readers have spokenand their views of Chicago's hotels are distinctly different from those of another top travel publication.
While Viceroy Chicago topped Travel + Leisure's readers' list of local spots to stay, a hotel that didn't even place in that top 10The Gwenended up number one on the Conde Nast list. (Incidentally, the Viceroy wasn't in Conde Nast's top-10 listing.)
"The Conde Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Award is always such a meaningful designation for us at The Gwen because it comes directly from our guests," said Area Director of Sales & Marketing Anna Jaszczyk in a statement. "And after such a challenging year for the hospitality industry, we are so grateful for the recognition and honored to have made a memorable impact on our guests."
Named for Gwen Lux, a Chicago-born pioneering female sculptor of the 20th century, The Gwen (located on the Magnificent Mile) features a 1928 wholly preserved facade and Art Deco interiors, with 311 taupe-and gold-hued guest rooms and 34 suites. The hotel's dining venues include Kostali by Naha, helmed by James Beard Award-winning chef Carrie Nahabedian.
Other Chicago hotels on Conde Nast's list include (from two to 10) Hotel Julian; the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel; Nobu Hotel Chicago; 21c Museum Hotel Chicago; the Waldorf Astoria Chicago; Virgin Hotels Chicago; Freehand Chicago; The Langham, Chicago; and Acme Hotel Company.
Chicago was also chosen as the best big city in the United States.
