Cancun has long welcomed sun-seekers of all sorts, including spring-breakers, families, international travelers, and gays and lesbians. Whether you are lusting after a romantic getaway or a rowdy escape, this Mexican coastal city is sure to delight.

But perhaps you prefer to indulge your leisure-time tastes in a grown-up setting, without the presence or distraction of children—yours or anyone else's. No problem. Cancun's offerings are many and diverse.

We've put together a list of some of Cancun's most popular adults-only, LGBT-friendly resorts and beaches. The rest is up to you. Note that prices vary seasonally. Discounts and package deals often are available.

—Temptation Resort Spa Cancun welcomes single and coupled adults to a hip and sexy take on the all-inclusive holiday. Located on the north end of the Hotel Zone, this topless-optional hotel sports a modern décor amid a tropical setting.

The six restaurants and six bars offer culinary experiences ranging from ultra-casual to white-tablecloth dining. Spa services can be booked for individuals or couples. The three swimming pools are themed—two party pools and one quiet pool. A daily agenda of madcap fun includes daytime recreational and fitness activities and nighttime adults-oriented entertainment and shows.

The 384 rooms are categorized as deluxe rooms, jacuzzi suites and "temptation suites." Each is appointed with either a king-size bed or two queens, plus a private terrace or balcony. No roller beds are available.

Celebrating your romance? Ask about the "Drops of Love" package.

Temptation Resort Spa Cancun is located at Kukulcan Blvd., Km. 3.5, Hotel Zone; 877-485-8367 and www.temptation.originalresorts.com .

—NIZUC Resort and Spa offers an elegant, tranquil experience in a secluded beachfront setting away from the hubbub of the Hotel Zone. The resort's contemporary Mexican design and 29-acre nature preserve capture the essence of the ancient and mystical Mayan culture.

You won't find raucous parties or all-you-can-eat-and-drink buffets here. Instead, you'll revel in luxurious surroundings, gourmet restaurant dining at six themed restaurants and the ultimate in relaxation. A selection of 274 suites is offered, many with private pools and terraces, and ocean or lagoon views. Although NIZUC is family-friendly, it does have an adults-only outdoor swimming pool and beach.

NIZUC Resort and Spa is located at Kukulcan Blvd., Km. 21, 26, Punta Nizuc; 855-696-4982 and www.nizuc.com .

—Oasis Sens is an adults-only, all-inclusive resort that caters to the LGBT community with an agenda of fun, romance and relaxation. By day, the nonstop activities and entertainment are poolside and at the beach. When the sun goes down, the action moves to the renowned Kinky Night Club. The amenities include three swimming pools, spa with indoor and outdoor treatment rooms, nine bars and nine restaurants. The showpiece of the dining options is the Benazuza restaurant and its menu of Mexican-influenced molecular cuisine. There's even a wedding chapel with two aisles.

Upgrade to the VIP guest category for special perks like a private plunge pool or whirlpool on your terrace or balcony and free use of a Smart car during your stay ( mandatory insurance is extra ). Discounts and special offers may be available.

Oasis Sens is located at Kukulcan Blvd., Km. 19.5, Hotel Zone; 998-891-5000 and 800-44-OASIS ( 62747 ), www.sensoasis.com .

—Le Blanc Spa Resort is an all-inclusive, adults-only retreat into luxury and romance. The sleek, modern décor in soothing neutral tones extends throughout the property and 260 guest rooms, contrasting with the stunning ocean views. Spend your time lounging beside one of the three outdoor swimming pools or on the white sandy beach, rejuvenating at the spa and feasting on sumptuous international cuisine. Four restaurants and five bars offer buffet and fine dining options.

Five room categories are available. The Royale Deluxe, which features double whirlpool and lagoon or resort views, sleeps up to four guests.

Le Blanc Spa Resort is at Kukulcan Blvd., Km. 10, Hotel Zone; 888-327-0654 and www.leblancsparesort.com .

—ME by Melia Cancun is an upscale all-inclusive, adult-oriented option on a quiet stretch of white, sandy beach. The overall look has a modern but colorful and artsy vibe. Although children are allowed, they aren't allowed everywhere. Two outdoor swimming pools are adults-only as are the guest suites, which offer extra features such as private terraces and hydro-massage tubs. You can pamper body and soul at the YHI spa. Then discover five dining spaces and six bars, each with a unique perspective on the resort lifestyle. On weekends, visit the trendy Beach Club @ME for live performances and a high-energy social atmosphere—it's been rated as one of the best beach bars in the world.

The resort offers 234 guest rooms and 80 suites at two price levels of all-inclusiveness: Complete ME is the basic level, and ME Plus guests receive a package of preferential treatments such as priority reservations and private concierge.

ME by Melia Cancun is at Kukulcan Blvd., Km. 12, Hotel Zone; 888-741-5600 and www.me-cancun.com .

—Playa Delfines ( a public beach ): All beaches in Mexico are government-owned, even those that front the swankiest resorts. You shouldn't have a problem walking past them, but don't plan to stick around. Management will politely remind you that you are not one of their guests. A few resorts will sell day passes to use the facilities, but not many.

Cancun has several public beaches, and all are family-friendly. However, Playa Delfines, a beautiful stretch of undeveloped beach, is the unofficial gay and lesbian beach, especially on weekends. The name translates to "dolphin beach," and chances are good you'll see them frolicking from the shore. The current can be strong here, so take caution, but the medium-sized waves attract surfers. Lessons are offered. For the most scenic views of the Caribbean Sea, search out the lookout platform known as "El Mirador." Note that the beach's amenities are few. Parking, palapas, restrooms and showers are available and free, but no restaurants are nearby.

Playa Delfines is at Blvd. Kukulcan, Km. 18, across from the Ruinas del Rey.
