Three students at St. Charles North High School made their thoughts on homosexuality known Nov. 8during the school's LGBT-oriented Ally Weekby sporting anti-gay shirts, according to the Daily Herald.
According to the GLSEN ( Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network ) website, " [ s ] tudents created Ally Week as a way to build upon the unifying work GSAs [ gay-straight alliances ] do across the country by encouraging people to be allies against anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools."
A minimum of three students publicized their view of homosexuality by wearing shirts with "Straight Pride" on the front and a Biblical verse from the Old Testament book of Leviticus on the back.
School district spokesman Jim Blaney said the students were called into the deans' offices when the shirts caused friction with other students. The students were allowed to wear the shirts for the remainder of the day, but complied with the request that they not wear them to school again.
