Street Walkin' with Sukie

I'm writing this on the Monday morning after Market Daze and every bone in my old body is aching. I spent two days serving on the Gerber/Hart Library book stall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. I consumed way too much coke-the diet variety-and I learned something i.e. gay men who are stripped to the waist do not buy books. In fact, three of these chemically enhanced muscle queens gave me the finger when I said "Support your Lesbian and Gay Library."

I know the gay community is diverse, but does it really have to be this diverse? A simple "No, I'm not interested" would be fine. I know that not everyone reads books. The irony is that now "Mayor Daley's gay-ghetto" is going straight, the straight people who came to our stall were very nice and supportive.

However, I and the Gerber/Hart volunteers met a lot of nice, and very generous, GLBT's over the two days. ( Simplesse del Rio wins the big prize for getting a $20 donation for Kitty Kelley's trashy Nancy Reagan book ) . It seemed like everyone I knew in Chicago passed me by that day: Dakota and Wigstock star Dawn Perignon make a nice couple ... but what are their children going to look like!!!

It was great to see Nicky and the GIRLZ from the Patch in Calumet City. If you haven't been to the Patch it's a hot lesbo bar that's well worth the road trip. They have a lot of live entertainment and girlz you don't see in the city. Oh yes, there is a gay life outside of Chicago.

__________

More lesbian action is coming up on Thursday, Aug. 30 at the Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave. ( at Damen and Milwaukee ) . The party starts at 8 p.m. and is hosted by those outrageous girlz at dykediva.com to benefit Women in the Director's Chair.

The Pussy Whipped Party is emceed by the hilarious Jessica Halem ( Hysterical Women ) and features performances by the Chicago Kings, with music by Love is a Verb, Heather's Damage & DJ Pussy Galore! All this for only $10.

For more info e-mail thediva@dykediva.com

Creep of the Week: A guy came up to me at Market Daze and said, "I love your column, but I'd like it more if you didn't write so much about fat ugly lesbians." I said, "But haven't you noticed, sweetheart, I AM a fat ugly lesbian."

I think I lost one of my readers. Oh well! I know I shouldn't say this, but this guy with his "fat ugly lesbian" remark didn't have a leg to stand on, because he was a 5'6", 300lb gay man with a deep-dish pizza face only a mother could love.

Hey! You laugh now, but it's the latest thing: temporary tooth tattoos. Wacky Web of the Week came from an anonymous source. Go visit www.smileshop.com/toothart/ for all your ... umm ... tooth accessories.

I dropped into the NAMES Project at 3732 N. Broadway. Ace photographer, and one of my favorite people in the world, Terry Gaskins, from Gay Chicago, was there exhibiting her work. The photograph of the Radical Faeries was a particular favorite of mine. I'm not sure how long the exhibit is up, so go catch it soon.

The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt will be displayed at Navy Pier Aug. 30-Sept. 2. Free admission. If you would like to volunteer call 773-472-1600.

Take a box of tissues with you and celebrate the lives of those who have gone before us.

The Quilt display is sponsored by Smirnoff Twist. Support those who support you. I do.

The two hottest bars on Halsted Street at the moment, Circuit and Bobby Love's, were hopping over the Market Daze weekend. Circuit always amazes me; the owner—and I've never met the man—obviously believes in giving back to the community. It seems that never a week goes by without Circuit hosting a benefit. And they've got Rehab out front, which is a really cool place to just hang out and unwind.

Bobby Love's is another favorite of mine; EVERYBODY goes to Bobby Love's and some nights it borders on complete insanity. I was in there recently and Honey West, Madam X and all the beautiful Wigstock girls came in. ( See ad in this paper for details of the upcoming Chicago Wigstock show. ) Have you bought your ticket yet? If you haven't, you better move your ass. Apart from Lady Bunny, it's worth the price of a ticket to see Circuit gals Daisy Mae and Lily O' the Alley + the incredible Miss Ketty from the Banana Tunnel Club. I'll be there with Nightlines vampire, Lynda Licina, both looking breathtakingly fabulous. Be there or be square, it's the hottest ticket in town.

__________

The following night I was in Bobby Love's with the mega-talented Eric Hensley; the mysterious character who produces, directs—and even fluffs, I heard—the Bijou's own Mafia Princess, Miss Tiger. She has another show coming up, but if I tell you what it's about, she'll bite my nuts off. Speaking of Miss Tiger, read her new advice column Peaches in the Night every two weeks in Nightlines. And don't miss Peter Dixon's Dix Mix in the same publication; now there's a a nice cutie with assets.

Talk about a group of people who shouldn't be in the same room together! Way too much fun. I pulled a muscle in my stomach laughing. Last week a group of us went to the monthly Gay Skating night at the Rainbo Rink on Clark and Lawrence, where we hung out with Chuck Renslow, Sarabia, Fausto Fernos and 300 other Disco Bunny skaters/bladers. I went with friends Sam Oan and Polly Nesia from the Tiki Bar, two Chicago ( Drag ) Kings, and Frankie Da Kat from Different Strokes. Could we possibly see the She-Devils there next month? Come on Lois, get your skates on girl ...

Next week I'll tell you about my shopping trip to Leather Sport and Cupid's Treasures, and also the Gerber/Hart porn sale at Touche's.

Now I'm off to review a stack of porn videos two feet high. Now where did I put that Video Head Cleaner ...
