One year out from the Supreme Court's decision on DOMA and just a few days into marriage equality in Illinois, come learn about all of the changes in the LGBTQ legal landscape over the past year. Panelists from leading advocacy organizations across the city will come together to address a broad range of issues, including marriage, trans* equality, HIV law and much more.
The event is presented in partnership with the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, with attorney Jill Metz delivering the keynote address. Ms. Metz is the President of the Board of Directors for the American Civil Liberties Union ( ACLU ) of Illinois. Panelists include Bernard Cherkasov, CEO of Equality Illinois, and John Peller, Interim President/CEO of AIDS Foundation of Chicago.
Center on Halsted hosts an annual series of legal seminars as part of the mission to advance community and secure the health and well-being of the LGBTQ people of Chicagoland. "Legal Seminars help individuals navigate the often murky and complex legal landscape," said Jane Merrill, Manager of Advocacy and Community Engagement. "The State of the LGBTQ Union will afford the community the opportunity to come together, showcase work done by partner organizations throughout the past year, and educate individuals on how these changes will impact them every day."
