The Illinois Senate narrowly voted Personal PAC President Terry Cosgrove to a spot on the state's human-rights commission April 7, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The vote was 30-25, with two individuals voting "present."
According to its website, Personal PAC "is a bipartisan Political action committee ( PAC ) dedicated to electing pro-choice candidates to state and local office in Illinois."
The commission position pays $49,960, according to the Sun-Times.
However, the procedure did not proceed smoothly, as Republicans made "pay-to-play" allegations against Cosgrove. Republican state Sen. Dale Righter said, "Mr. Cosgrove's organization donated over $400,000 to the governor's campaign, the person who's giving him this job. Mr. Cosgrove and his association were integral players in making sure he kept his seat as governor. That does not pass the smell test back home."
Cosgrove later responded, "I really think it was just political theater on their part. Honestly, this was another day at the office for me. I didn't take it personally at all."
