Heathers: The Musical, Kokandy Productions at Theater Wit, through April 24. The bullying and murderous high schoolers from the dark 1988 film comedy Heathers now get to sing out in this campy 2014 musical adaptation. Kokandy Productions' Chicago premiere features soaring vocals and fun performances. SCM
Midnight Cowboy, Lifeline Theatre through April 10. This new adaptation of the novel about sexual exploitation has more Joe Buck and a little less Ratso Rizzo. It's well-done, well-cast, and still pertinent and poignant. JA
Richard III, Gift Theatre at Steppenwolf Garage, through May 1. Michael Patrick Thornton is the crippled king who would walk tall, but the show's real star is the arsenal of high-med gadgets the Rehab Institute of Chicago supplies. MSB
