Football Tryouts
On the heels of an exciting 6-2 season finish, the Chicago Force Women's Pro Tackle Football Team is annoiuncing open tryouts for the 2005 season. Next date is Jan. 8, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Broadway Armory, 5917 N. Broadway, $50 fee. The Force is part of the 30-team Independent Women's Football League. See www.chicagoforcefootball.com .
Bowling for Vital Bridges
On Saturday, Jan. 29, more than 150 bowlers will gather at River Rand Bowl in Des Plaines for the 8th Annual 'Strike Out Hunger'. The event will benefit Vital Bridges, a multi-service HIV/AIDS agency. Proceeds from this event will support Vital Bridges' nutrition services for low-income men, women and children with HIV and AIDS throughout metropolitan Chicago.
Vital Bridges, the merger of Open Hand Chicago, Community Response and the HIV Coalition, helps more than 2,600 people impacted by HIV and AIDS each year to improve their health and build self-sufficiency. By providing food, nutrition, housing, case management and prevention services at six sites throughout the metropolitan area, the agency offers clients accessible, responsive professional help to meet the challenges in their lives.

Strictly Sail Event
Strictly Sail Chicago, the largest annual gathering of sailors in the Midwest, will be held at Navy Pier Feb. 3-6, 2005. More than 20,000 people are expected to visit the four-day event to see more than 250 exhibitors showcasing the newest sailboats and sailing accessories on the market.
In addition to the 10th anniversary celebration, and showcasing new products, Strictly Sail Chicago offers attendees an opportunity to learn about sailing through its seminar series. Newcomers to sailing will be taught the basics, while seasoned seafarers can come to learn new techniques. Sailing celebrities will also share tales of their experiences at sea.

Arena Football in Town
Players and staff from the Arena Football League ( AFL ) were at Myra Bradwell Communications Arts and Sciences Academy on Dec. 17 to hand out holiday gifts to over 200 students.
The AFL has collected more than 500 new toys and coats to distribute amongst the deserving boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade at Myra Bradwell Academy. This marks the first time any organization has held a toy/clothing drive specifically for the students at Myra Bradwell.
The Arena Football League, the second-longest running football league in U.S. history, will begin its 19th season in January 2005. On the strength of its Mission Statement and Fans' Bill of Rights, the AFL is reportedly America's fastest growing sports league. A network-TV sport, the AFL will celebrate its third season on NBC in 2005.
