Frontrunners/Frontwalkers Chicago is gearing up for their signature event, the 23rd annual Proud To Run. The event, held during Pride Weekend and a partner of the Midwest GLBT Sports and Cultural Festival, is again benefiting Gerber/Hart Library and Pride Youth.
Gerber/Hart Library is a library, archive and cultural center dedicated to meeting the information needs of its unique community in a safe atmosphere that promotes research, exploration and discovery.
The mission of the Pride Youth Program of LINKS—North Shore Health Service—is to empower young people to take responsibility for their health, well-being and sexuality through prevention and education.
Proud To Run 2004 will take place at Montrose Harbor on Saturday, June 26. It includes both a 5K and 10K race as well as a 2-mile fun walk. Proud To Run will also host two raffle night benefits that are highlighted with the prize of signed items from the cast of Queer Eye For The Straight Guy. The first raffle is at Star Gaze on Sunday, May 23, from 6-10 p.m. and the final raffle is on Saturday, June 5, at Big Chick's from 8 p.m. until midnight.
There is an opportunity to pre-register for the Proud To Run at the above events as well as at Sidetrack from 7:30-10 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, and from 1-4 p.m. at Women And Children First on Saturday, June 19. Participants may also register the week before the race at Fleet Feet Sports: June 22-23 at the Lincoln Square location and June 24-25 in their Old Town store. Pre-registered
participants, aside from saving $5 off the race day price, have the option of enjoying the pre-event dinner at Anna Maria Pasteria on Friday, June 25, the evening before the main event.
Frontrunners/Frontwalkers is a GLBT running and walking club that meets at the Totem Pole opposite Addison and Lake Shore Drive in Lincoln Park every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m. There will be a special fun run/ walk on Wednesday, June 2. This run/walk is part of the Edgewater Fitness Week and will start at 6:30 p.m from the Foster Avenue Beach House.
