Girls in the Game's 5th 'Chip in for Girls' Golf Outing will be at the newly renovated Chevy Chase Golf Club located in Wheeling, Ill., Monday, June 21, 2004.
The 'Chip in for Girls' event will raise funds to send more than 125 girls from underserved communities to this year's 'SummerGames' 9th annual Sports and Leadership Summer Camp. At 'SummerGames,' girls are given the opportunity to participate in 30 or more traditional and non-traditional sports, to succeed in cooperative and fun team-building exercises, to build friendships, to address issues of health, self-esteem, and diversity, and to learn from role models.
Thanks to support from private foundations, individuals, and 'Chip in for Girls' participants, Girls in the Game is able to serve a population of girls that reflects the economic and social diversity of the Chicago region and includes girls from disadvantaged and underserved communities.
'We have waiting lists miles and miles long' for girls, school programs, and summer camp,' said Girls in the Game Executive Director Amy Skeen. 'The only thing that is holding us back is funding.'
'Chip in for Girls' will feature 18 holes of golf with friends, sponsors, and celebrity guests that include Chicago Bears Alfonso Boone, Rex Grossman, and R.W. McQuarters; Chicago Blackhawks Mark Bell and Kyle Calder; the Chicago Park District's General Superintendent Timothy J. Mitchell; former Chicago White Sox Carlos May; NBC5 and United Airlines Health & Fitness Expert Michael Sena; and USA Softball's Dani Tyler.
