Peter Mavrik
Radio host, nightclub DJ, Nightspots columnist, queercast producer, and database administrator: That's the short list of things Peter Mavrik juggles each day.
While growing up, Peter was immersed in the arts. After various choir, band, and orchestra experiences, he worked as a theatrical makeup and lighting director in school while studying Spanish. In 1992, at the age of 15, he began to identify with the queer community in Chicago. The nightlife and club scenes were attractive, but it was the music that really interested him.
Peter was on his way to two careers, thanks to a series of hops up the corporate ladder during the day and a video gig at Spin nightclub at night.
Within two years of working at Spin, Peter was the Friday night resident DJ and had also began writing music review columns, eventually working for Nightspots as a club reporter and scene photographer.
The Windy City family took Peter in and put him on Windy City Radio with Amy Matheny, where he now appears weekly. With his computer background and nose for hot tech trends, Peter has been a fan of podcasts for quite a while, and began to produce his own queercast at the beginning of 2006. Going forward, Windy City Radio will become The Windy City Queercast, with Peter co-producing the podcast with Amy Matheny.
DID YOU KNOW? At a young age, early Greek language and piano lessons guided him along he path to making music and the study of foreign languages, two of the biggest passions in his life.
Amy Wooten
Amy Wooten, 24, joined Windy City Media Group last summer as an editorial intern while completing her Master's in journalism at Columbia College. She is currently the senior news reporter.
Wooten was born and raised in the western suburbs where, as an undergrad, she helped her younger queer friends work with more progressive area schools to form a gay-straight alliance at her former high school. In her early years, she was also involved in the local 'riot grrl' scene.
Although primarily involved in numerous college publications until her hire, where she received awards for her news and sports reporting, Wooten has also been published in several magazines. She received her Bachelor's in English ( print journalism ) , with a minor in political science, from North Central College in Naperville.
DID YOU KNOW? After being told her acting skills were atrocious during a high school play audition her freshman year, Amy took the advice of an English teacher and joined the newspaper. She never looked back.
