WBEZ did a long segment on pride last Friday, and parade organizer Rich Pfeiffer and I were on to talk about the many weekend events. ... The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to ANY DAY make its ruling on the Boys Scouts of America ( BSA ) vs. James Dale. The July 6 issue of Rolling Stone contains an 11-page special report of the issue. Reporter Chuck Sudetic covers the basic information about James Dale and the case, but what makes this article stand out from other coverage is the research done on the business side of the BSA organization. Sudetic reports that his investigations caused him to conclude there are two BSAs. The one is the volunteer local level where the boys actually take part in the organization. He says that is not as anti-gay as one would be led to believe. The other part is the salaried national leaders "whose well-being," he writes, "depends on constant fundraising, much of it through alliances with old time conservative religious groups …"

Geico Insurance appears to be the latest advertiser pulling back its plans to advertise on the Dr. Laura TV show. NationalGayLobby.org reports that Rebecca Lindhart, assistant to the president of Geico, after speaking with NGL, alerted Geico Vice President for Marketing Ted Ward and Vice President for Public Relations Walt Smith to the controversy surrounding Laura Schlessinger. "A few minutes ago I was notified by Ms. Lindhart that Geico has begun to take steps to terminate its advertising on the Dr. Laura radio program. The 'Dr. Laura' matter, according to Ms. Lindhart, has been given the highest priority and is now being handled by Geico Corporate Vice President Robert Miller and Geico director David Schindler," said NGL's Michael Romanello.

"Yes, I am interested in purchasing the Butthole ( Manhole ) and I'm making inquiries thereof," said Mike "Mookie" Spitz to Sukie de la Croix of Outlines. "I'm thinking of going in on it with Jeff Pool, an old-school bartender from way back when. We're interested in bringing back the old Christopher Street, bringing back old staff, a revival bar from the good old days, when the street was a street, and a fag was a fag, and we were half in the closet and having a gay old time. You know what the good old days were like ... it was fierce. We want to bring those days back."

The June 21 Village Voice had a fascinating article by Richard Goldstein about "Men Who Love Military Men Too Much—And the Sailors Who Oblige Them." about the "military chasers" around U.S. bases., including Camp Pendleton. "At Pendleton, in California, marines can choose from chasers circling the base in impressive cars, or call the numbers listed in graffiti offering 'GOOD $$$ 4 BJ 4 USMC.' But San Diego is the capital of chaser nation. There, the concentration of enlisted men draws a dedicated fan club."
