Smithsonian adds AIDS research pioneer Krim's portrait

The Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., has added two portraits of AIDS research pioneer Dr. Mathilde Krim to its collection, according to a press release.
The two portraits of Dr. Krim include an Annie Leibovitz's portrait in which Dr. Krim wears a looped AIDS-awareness pin on her jacket's lapel. The other portrait is Joyce Tenneson's photograph where Dr. Krim wears the Presidential Medal of Freedomthe highest civilian honor in the U.S.she received in 2000.
The Leibovitz portrait of Krim will be on view this fall in the museum's 2015 Recent Acquisitions exhibition opening Nov. 6. |
