On Aug. 27, in light of the Jacob Blake shooting, Chicago Sky owners Michael Alter and John Rogers issued a joint statement supporting the WNBA players' decision to not play that evening's gameswhich is echoed by the entire Sky organization, according to an email Windy City Times received:
"The principal owners of the Chicago sky are incredibly proud of the inspiring and courageous leadership on social justice issues displayed by the powerful women of the Sky and the WNBA, and we continue to support their ongoing efforts to shine a light on these injusticesespecially [toward] women of colorand their actions to make our nation better, stronger and equitable."
Meanwhile, a pair of Instagram postsone posted by Brian Urlacher, the other "liked"on the shooting of Jacob Blake caused the Chicago Bears to distance themselves from their Hall of Famer, Yahoo! reported.
Urlacher posted a plain statement to his Instagram story unfavorably comparing the NBA walkouts in protest against Blake's shooting to a performance from his old rival Brett Favre after the death of his father. He also liked a demand to free Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old charged with murder after allegedly shooting three protesters, killing two, in Kenosha, Wisconsinthe site of Blake's shooting.
"The social media posts in no way reflect the values or opinions of the Chicago Bears organization," the team said in a statement. |
