Sky end Mystics' undefeated season
2020-08-02

On Aug. 1, the Chicago Sky ended the Washington Mystics' status as the WNBA's lone undefeated team by stopping them 88-86.

Among other achievements, the Sky shot 48 percent from the three-point line, and Chicago's bench outscored the Mystics' 28 to eight.

The Sky's starting five of Courtney Vandersloot, Allie Quigley, Kahleah Copper, Azura Stevens and Cheyenne Parker opened the game for Chicago for the third time this season. Balanced scoring was key, as Parker and Gabby Williams each scored 16 points to lead the Sky, while Quigley had 15 and Copper added 14.

As for what this win means, Sky General Manager and Head Coach James Wade said in a statement that Washington is a "championship team—mo matter who they put on the floor, in part because they have a championship coaching staff and they have a championship culture. So you just have to be ready to play. ... We didn't expect it to be easy so it came down to the final seconds and we were able to execute one more play more than them."

The Sky ( 3-1 ) next play the Dallas Wings ( 2-1 )—for the first time during the 2020 WNBA season—on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Tipping off at 5 p.m. CT, the game will be broadcast on WCIU, Fox Sports Southwest and WNBA League Pass.
