The Kerasotes Showplace Icon Theater takes a night out at the movies to a whole new level. The theater, opened in Chicago in December 2009, features a bevy of extras that make the theater a little more special and a little more adult.
Guests at the Icon don't have to go to a restaurant to enjoy dinner and a movie. The Lobby Lounge serves appetizers, gourmet pizzas, Panini and deserts as well as wine, cocktails and beer served on plates and in glasses. Diners and drinkers alike can relax at tables that surround the bar before or after a movie and take in skyline views through the windows.
The Icon has two theaters with VIP sections that are accessed from the lounge. The VIP sections take up the top half of the theaters (the bottom half is regular seating). Oversized loveseats include personal tables with cup holders on the sides, and guests can bring in food and drinks from the lounge. The lounge also gives out pagers to VIP guests that will notify them when their food is ready to pick up and bring into the movie. Guests must be 21 to sit in the VIP section.
The Icon holds 16 regular theaters that feature plush oversized chairs and stadium seating. All seats at the Icon are reservedguests choose their seats when purchasing tickets, and ticket purchases are closed once the movie starts. There are also no pre-move advertisements. (Movie previews are still included.)
Aside from the regular movie concessions like candy and popcorn, the Icon also offers frozen yogurt, coffee and tea, thin-crust pizza and real butter to top off popcorn.
The theater has hosted events such as the opening night of the LGBT film festival Reeling and a premier screening of the movie The Kids Are Alright, both in 2010.
The Showplace Icon Theater is located in the Roosevelt Collection at 150 W. Roosevelt. Tickets are $18.50 each for VIP seating and $12.50 each for regular reserved seating. Parking is free for a limited time in the underground parking lot.
