September 8, 2015 - ( Chicago, Ill. ) — September is Hunger Action Month — a national initiative started by Feeding America and its member food banks to encourage the public to take action and work to alleviate hunger.
In response, Lakeview Pantry, an organization that has provided emergency food assistance and other critical services to residents of Lakeview for more than 45 years, has launched "Shop to Fight Hunger." For the month of September, a number of local businesses will offer special promotions that will benefit the Pantry.
Visit these businesses during September and take advantage of the following deals:
Bridget McNeill's ( 420 W. Belmont Ave. ): During Saturdays in September, buy any regular price brunch item and 10% of your food purchase will be donated to Lakeview Pantry.
Click Shoes and More ( 3729 N Southport Ave ): Bring in a nonperishable food item and receive 10% off your entire purchase. Also mark your calendar for Wednesday, October 28 for a shoe party where 15% of all purchases will benefit the Pantry.
Froyo Chicago ( 3746 N. Southport Ave. ): Stop in for frozen yogurt on Tuesday, September 29. 20% of all profits that day will be donated to Lakeview Pantry.
Lakeview East Festival of the Arts ( Broadway Ave. from Belmont to Hawthorne ): Attend the festival on Saturday, September 12 and/or Sunday, September 13. A portion of the festival's proceeds will be granted to Lakeview Pantry.
Lifestyle Physical Therapy and Balance Center ( 3130 N Lincoln Ave ): Purchase a $35 spinal screening, and the $35 will be donated to Lakeview Pantry.
Lolë ( 3434 N Southport Ave. ): Bring in a non-perishable food item between Monday, September 21 and Friday, September 25 and receive $20 off your purchase.
My Fit Foods ( 3701 N. Halsted ): Purchase any meal on Fridays in September and receive one free that you can designate to be donated to Lakeview Pantry.
Taco Fest ( Southport from Addison to Roscoe ): Stop by the beer tent on Saturday, September 19 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and tip generously. All tips will be donated to the Pantry.
Ten Thousand Villages ( 840 W. Armitage ): Bring in a nonperishable food donation and receive 20% off of any one item. Also shop at Ten Thousand Villages on Saturday, September 26 when 15% of all net sales that day will be donated to Lakeview Pantry!
Whole Foods Market Chicago ( 3640 N. Halsted St. & 3300 N. Ashland Ave. ): Visit lakeviewpantry.org on September 15 for an announcement about a special gift from Whole Foods for our supporters. And mark your calendar forMonday, October 5, when Whole Foods Market's Healthy Eating Specialist will teach a special class at our Broadway location. On Tuesday, October 20 both stores will also host a shopping day where 5% of the stores' profits will be donated to the Pantry!
Vision Boutique ( 3053 N. Sheffield ): Bring in a canned item and receive free polarization with purchase of sunglasses.

Who and How Lakeview Pantry Serves
Lakeview Pantry serves more than 4,400 households annually. In the Lakeview neighborhood, nearly 1 in 9 individuals struggles with poverty and food insecurity. In 2014, the organization distributed approximately 1.6 million pounds of food via its Broadway and Oakdale locations and home delivery program. Lakeview Pantry staff and volunteers also assist clients in obtaining other needed social services such as employment, healthcare, housing and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program ( "SNAP" ) benefits.
