Author Justin Spring discusses Samuel Steward and Chicago's evolving gay scene
WHAT: In this reception and lecture, author and historian Justin Spring will discuss the evolution of Chicago's gay scene as well as the life and times of Samuel Steward, the university professor who left the world of academia to become a tattoo artist and sex researcher with Alfred Kinsey and the Institute of Sex Research. Steward's journals and artwork, nearly all of them relating to his highly adventurous sexual life, were the basis of Spring's biography Secret Historian and, more recently, of the exhibition "Obscene Diary: The Secret Archive of Samuel Steward: Professor, Tattoo Artist, and Pornographer" at New York's Museum of Sex. $15, $10 members. Ticket price includes one cocktail and light appetizers. Cash bar available.
