Venus Williams was on the South Side for the Chicago Tennis Festival this week, ABC7Chicago.com reported.
Williams was competing in the Chicago Women's Open Tournament at XS Tennis in the Washington Park neighborhood. However, according to WTATennis.com, she lost to Taiwanese player Hsieh Su-Wei 6-2, 6-3 on Aug. 23.
This WTA tournament is also attracting some of the other best players in the world to the city, including Olympic bronze medalist and top seed Elina Svitolina, from Ukraine. Kaia Kanepi, Heather Watson and Zarina Diyas were among a few of the others who entered the event.
On Aug. 22, the Chicago Tennis Festival kicked off with Clara Tauson capturing the WTA 125 title by defeating wild-card entry Emma Raducanu 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.
