NFL quarterback Tom Brady has retired after winning seven Super Bowls and setting a boatload of passing records in his 22-year-career.
"This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore," Brady wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram, per The Chicago Tribune. "I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention."
Brady, 44, goes out after leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a Super Bowl title last season and NFC South championship this season. (He won the other six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.)
In his announcement, Brady thanked everyone with the Bucs, his business partners, his agents and his family, ESPN.com noted. While he reflected on his career, he did not specifically mention his time with the Patriots or anybody within the organization.
